Maria Venuti at her 70th birthday party, with Trevor Ashley as Maria Venuti
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS PERFECT
I know that the popular choice is to say that Barbra was at her most beautiful as Fanny Bryce but COME ON.
Also forever respect Babs for insisting that the trademark Dolly Levi reds/pinks for the Hello, Dolly! production number become the autumnal greens and golds that obviously suited her red hair better.
Like, seriously, look how long Live Action Christie’s eyelashes were in 1971. AMAZING.
1970 Christie remains one of the most beautiful of all the Barbie face sculpts - plus her makeup was so good; hot pink lips and long, straight rooted eyelashes - and I can never get over how amazing she looks when her hair oxidises.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Christine and Ellen and the crew there are friendly, fast, and amazingly talented, and serve an immensely diverse clientele with kindness and respect.
It’s the sort of store you can take in/email a photo of Gozer The Gozerian and have the response be “Sure, do you want dark brown or black? And would you prefer a baby matted hairline or a lace-front?”
They are also outrageously reasonable, pricewise, for fully-styled wigs; their off-the-shelf wigs are even cheaper, plus they have a great range of false eyelashes for around the $3 mark. (And their polystyrene heads are at least $4 cheaper than I’ve seen elsewhere.)
I know some performers/costumers like to play their cards close but it would be a dick move to keep Hollywood Wigs to myself.
Plus, take it from me, you will relish the opportunity to begin sentences with, “My wig stylist…”
